In Islam, God has 99 names.  During religious classes, muslims learn all these names of God.  ( reference ) In the web referrence you will see in English language the 99 attributes that are atributed that God, Allah.

In Hindu faith - as is explained and taught in the 8 volumes of lectures by Swamiji Vivekananda, he explaines that the Hindu believer DOES NOT worship Idols as so many in the West seem to think. The 19th century orientalist scholar Max Muller, translated the word, Deva into English as god.

When Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Father of the Nation of India, was assasinated he last dying words were, "Oh Ram" as the movie portrays. But there is controversy about this as much as life itself is often controversial. But let me focus on the statement that Islam has 99 words for the Creator (my personal favorite name for God.  Let me explain by way of a few illustrations.  In Hinduism , the Deva Hanuman, sometimes referred to as the monkey god - is often preferred and is venerated by soliders, police officers, certainly young boys who want to be brave , etc.

Hanuman, the mighty ape that aided Lord Rama in his expedition against evil forces, is one of the most popular idols in the Hindu pantheon. Believed to be an avatar of Lord Shiva, Hanuman is worshiped as a symbol of physical strength, perseverance, and devotion.  Yes, but no quite correct.  Replace worshiped with the English word, VENERATED then you will come much closer to what the soldier is actually doing. If anything, it is an understatement to say that Hinduism can be a complicated religion to understand, especially for Westerners - and especially for Westerners who don't make the effort to try and understand.  We fear what we don't understand.

The CATHOLIC believer DOES NOT WORSHIP Mary, Mother of God as I know for a fact - many Protestants do think that.  The correct word is VENERATE.

{VENERATE: To regard with deep respect or reverence. synonym: revere. To regard with reverential respect; to honor with mingled respect and awe; to reverence; to revere. {The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition.} These are ATTRIBUTES.

The Indian soldier, and many others, admire in the stories of  Hanuman's tale in the epic Ramayana such attributes as COURAGE, STRENGTH, BRAVERY, HONOR, etc., and these are considered ATTRIBUTES of the Creator, GOD. In a way you can think of it as similar to a Catholic boy who wears a St. Christipher medal, partly to bring him good luck.

Many Hindus have beautiful idols of the Deva, Ganesha.  Ganesha is also the Deva of Good Luck in the Hindu culture and religious system of beliefs.  I have a really nice walnut carved Ganesha which I obtained on one of my trips to India at a small store near the Taj Mahal.

I do have my own favorite Hindu Deva.  And this is Saraswati, the goddess of learning.  I have come to learn to love many things in this world.  But I will confess that the first two, in order, are: 1. My wife of 40+ years and constanly learning new things about this world I live in.  I do VENERATE  Saraswati - but I don't woship her idol though I do have a picture of her and I do have a large hand carved "idol" of Ganesha. It is to remind me of my trips to India.  For the devout Hindu - these "idols" are symbols which remind them of the great attributes of the creator and in their selection of a "favorite" idol, the specific qualities that the symbol representgs. When you study the teachings of Swami Vivekananda - and Vedanta - much confusion is made clear.

Let me put it this way.  The Creator, Allah, gave MANKIND a brain, a very special brain. And no other living thing on earth has it's unique property of having the ability to make decisions, choices, to think abstractly and to think and to search for his Creator, GOD, ALLAH.  Allah, God, does not want His children to be a dumb dumbs.  God gave Man the gift of the reasoning brain that man may  seek and search for his (man's) Creator.

The Koran, as I understand its teaching at this stage in my life, teaches that ALLAH, GOD, Jehovah, made the many tribes and races of people on the earth that they may learn to get along.

I and many others believe that God sent Jesus, His Prophet (as I see it) to teach Man to love one another. Did not Jesus bring us a new commandment, the first commandment, "To love one another."

As I understand it, God, the Creator of the universe sent His Prophet Muhamad to teach Man that mans first duty is to submit himself (a man) to His, God's Will; We are to submit ourselves to the WILL of God, Allah, Lord God Jehovah. Where does it say,

"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man."

And I submit that the Fear God is not the fear of a child who sleeps in a dark room or hears the thunder and lightning of the storm, but rather it is to be in Awe of the Creator of the Universe and that His creation of Man is to submit himself to the Will of the Creator, God, ALLAH.

I best conclude for now with this.  At a little of the age of seven  I came to wonder about the great unknown something.  And thus began my search - a jouney of near a lifetime.  I constanly wondered what is true.  Then about 1965 I came upon several old small books by a Swami Vivekananda, who is today VENERATED throughout India.

I read these two small books, Raja Yoga and Karma Yoga.  From these I learned about the Vedanta Society and was able to get the complete lectures of Swami Vivekananda (he himself never wrote, but rather his lectures were stenographically recorded ) throughout the world - mainly late 19th century, were  eight volumes.

When I left Memphis for the university I took these and some books by Max Muller and his translation of the Upanishads and a paper back edition of The Holy Koran (same translation as listed above).  And fellow engineering student, Kishor, who lives in Laurel, MD still, but now an old man I bet - saw these books when he and his fellow Indian engineering students came over for us to study together.

In reading Vivekanada I learned about his teacher, hisGurua if you wish.

Guru is a Sanskrit term for a "mentor, guide, expert, or master" of certain knowledge or field. Wikipedia

That person was Ramakrishna - who was also totally illiterate - could neither read or write - but whose teachings were profound.  Ramakrishan is also VENERATED throughout India.

What struck me one day while reading Vivekananda was Ramakrishna's teaching that

ALL RELIGIONS ARE BUT DIFFERENT ROADS LEADING TO THE SAME GOD.

Then for me, things started to make sense. Years later I was able to go to India on work related business and I made many friends.  One of them was Ambar, also an engineer graduate of ITT (India Institute of Technology) is the MIT of India but many times harder to get admitted to ITT as admission is ONLY by competative nation wide academic examinations.

I was able to have lengthly discussions with Ambar (Bengali talk sessions) both when we were in Calcutta (now called the Bengali Kolkata as in 'call kata - as in performing a kata  in Japanese Shotokan karate)

Ambar related to me one of the stores of Sri Ramakrisha - who went and visited all the different temples,  Muslim Mosques, Christian churches, a Jewish synagogue, sikh temple, and so on. While in Delhi I was able myself to visit a beautiful Sikh temple and Hindu temple.  But as on the second trip I was with my wife - I did visit a very large Muslim Mosque in the old part of Delhi.  I wanted to go inside - but they were having a prayer session.  And too, I was somwhat afraid. (We fear what we don't understand.) And our prejudices come to us because of IGNORANCE and FEAR.  But the Mosque had a long steep stairway up to near the top of the wall of a large pavilion where they faithful were in prayer session.  So I climbed the hill and stairs and was able to observe.

In Calcutta (Kolcutta) Ambar told me that when Sri Ramakrishna told how he visited each place of worship to God - he saw the same LIGHT in each place of faith.  He then said that Namaskar meant in Bengali

May the light of God that is within you Shine

It all made sense to me. When I was in the Hindu temple in New Delhi (taken there by a fellow engineer and friend) they were in session and playing the instruments and chanting, etc. I was deeply moved.  The same thing happened to me when I visited the Sikh temple. And when I visted a Hindu temple in a very remote village in Bihar - a temple on a hill - I climbed the hill with many other people of faith and I entered the temple. And there I heard the bells as I had heard in the Hindu temple in New Delhi, the same chants and singing, etc.  Then the priest came over to me and put some red marker paste on my forehead. I was overwhealmed.

It was the same feeling as when on a number of occasions I visted the large cathedral of St. Patrick on 5th avenue in Manhatten.  The same thing happened many decades later when I visited St. Meinrad and heard the great bells calling and listing to the monks in the Cathederal of St. Meinrad - the beautiful Gregorian chants.  I have felt the same feelings in the Baptist churches I have visited.  And Pentescostal.  How many different churches have I been baptised in?

First stop was in Munich, Germany, 1947 when I was baptised in the Russian Orthodox Church.  I have no idea why my natural mother did me so as she was a devout Serbian Orthodox believer.

Not too long after I came to America and moved to Manhattan, I attended the Brick Presbyterian Church on Park Avenue, not too far from the apartment where I lived, on 97th St.  Baptissed by sprinkling.

The next time the baptism was in a Baptist church where I now ive and it was done in total immersion.

One thing I am certain of and it is this: there is another dimension in the universe.  I have spent much time with emails on this very issue with my friend of near 50 years who did much post graduate work in Quantum Mechanics and then finished his doctorate work in electrical engineering and went to work as a scientist at NASA's Godard Space Flight Center.  Tucker Carlson and others have talked about the UFO's and unexplained phenomena on TV news.

What I have written to Dr. Jan is that  the UFO sightings and other oddities and the apparations of Our Lady and the Miracles in medicine, and may other such things - and the UNEXPLAINED PARADOXES in quantum mechanics are explained if we assume another dimension or dimensions in the universe.

Great physicists such as Michio Kaku, Professor of Theoretical Physics at City College of New York City (Manhattan which should send all its gabage to another dimension in one of Jan's rockets) has written about HYPERSPACE [theory of higher dimensional space ] and BEYOND EINSTEIN and its sure beond me, and also, QUANTUM FIELD THEORY text book. I won't get into the details because I will confess I ain't got enough gray brain matter or a big enough frontal lobe to make sense of it at the levels he and people like Jan can understand.

There are some pretty good "laymen's" books dealing with this topic.  Dance of the Wu Li Masters (Tai Chi Master Al Huang said that the Chinese word for Physicss is Wu Li - beats me ) is a very good read and I think understandable by any diligent 10th thru 12th grade student.  It has little math and really  you don't need a bunch of math to get a general idea of what this field of science is all about.

You can also buy the Feynman Lectures on Physics and if you are reasonably good at algebra II and a little bit of basic calculus then the three volume set is worth it.  Sort of.

"Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!"

I will be finanlizing and explain what I am trying to explain as time allows.
